After 40 years of roasting coffee beans in South London’s Lambeth, Costa (after an investment of £38m) recently moved into their state-of-the-art Roastery in Basildon, Essex. Covering over 85,000 SQ feet, the new facility is the largest in Europe - the equivalent of over 30 tennis courts.

The site has more than quadrupled Costa’s roasting capacity from 11,000 tonnes of coffee per year to 45,000 tonnes, enabling them to meet customer demand in the long-term and support the company’s rapid national and international growth.

Marc Congdon, Engineering Manager at Costa, said: “The passion and precision that goes into every cup of Costa coffee, filters through to the role of our maintenance engineers. They need to be able to work efficiently and safely, which is why bott was the best choice for us.”

Marc contacted bott to discuss Costa’s requirements and arranged for Paul Maynard, Project Sales Manager, to visit the roastery. Paul said: “The new workshop was a blank canvas, with specifications needed for 3 dedicated maintenance areas: Mechanical/Metalwork, Pneumatic/Wet and Electrical/Electronic. Each area required a different solution for specific maintenance tasks, and to include efficient storage for tools and equipment.”
